The Tenbury Letters
London: The Golden Cockerel Press, 1942

Octavo (the pages 7-3/8 x 5 in.). No. 97 of 300 numbered copies. Publisher's red bookcloth, the spine gilt lettered, gilt cockerel decorations on foot of spine and front cover, top edges gilt, others uncut. Printed by Christopher Sandford and Owen Rutter on Arnold mould-made paper. Collates [2 ll.], 1 l. (title and colophon), pp. 5-223, [1 p.], 1 p. (list) and 7 pp. (facsimiles of letters and accounts). Spine slightly sunned, small black marks (ink?) on rear cover, hint of edgewear on top edges, slight foxing throughout, else generally a very good copy. This volume publishes, apparently all for the first time, 142 letters from the collection of Sir Gore Ouseley, which passed from his children Sir Frederick and Lady Mary Jane to the Library of St. Michael's College, Tenbury, and is rich in interesting and distinguished holographs across several categories of the early nineteenth century.
