A truly stunning impression, with rich mezzotint bloom, of one of the most
captivatingly beautiful images in the grand tradition of British theater prints.
Here cast as the comic muse, Frances Barton, the once flower-seller who married
her music-master Abington, became the rose of the London stage, commanding
leading roles alongside David Garrick at the Drury Lane Theatre. She was the
magnet of a large public interest; her warm charm attracted admiration rather
than envy; her elegant dress and "Abington cap" became the avatars of the
latest mode de rigeur.
