Publisher's self-wrapper covers printed in red. Collates 2 ll. (half-title and title), pp v-viii, pp. 9-253, [1 p.], 1 l. (publisher's statements). Very good overall, slight toning to page margins, slight edgewear on wrappers, small tear in one leaf (without loss).

(Washington, 1948) The Black Sun Press first illustrated edition. 16mo (the pages 15.8 x 11.8 cm). Translated by Kay Boyle, introduction by Aldous Huxley. Illustrated with 12 stills from the movie starring Micheline Presle and Gerard Philipe. Publisher's red cloth covers, spine gilt lettered, gilt decoration of Devil on front cover. Dust jacket printed in red, having a 13th still from the movie on the rear. Collates 2 ll. (half-title and title), pp v-viii, pp. 9-253, [1 p.]. Very good overall, the book with very slight bumping at spine ends, the dust jacket with mended losses to white areas at spine ends and cover corners (not affecting printed portions).

The precocious experience of "marvellous boyhood" -- as Chatterton and Rimbaud, here Radiguet, "the most recent of his marvellous kind" (Huxley).

Both books together in a natural silk covered clamshell box lettered in red.
