Quarter purple blind-rolled leather, gilt lettering on spine, over original burgundy buckram covers, top edges trimmed, others uncut. Collates 323 pp.: [4], 1, i-lx, 1-256, [2]. Top portions of original cover buckram slightly faded; leather fine. Overall a very good copy, internally fine, in an attractive binding. The full-page black-and-white illustrations by Hugh Thompson are on rectos only; in addition, he supplied numerous chapter headings and tailpieces, decorative opening initials and in-text illustrations.
