John GRILLO (American, b. 1917)
Untitled [Abstract landscape]

Color serigraph, 1978, in nine colors, no. 114 of 200 from a total edition of 230. Signed, dated and numbered in pencil: “114/200” lower left margin, “Grillo ’78” lower right margin. On thick ivory wove paper with full margins, image 61 x 76 cm (24 x 29-7/8 in.), sheet 66.5 x 81.2 cm (26-1/4 x 32 in.), stamped “© Dr. H.H. McDonald, 1978” on margin verso. Fine condition.

As stated on his still active artist's website, toward the late 1970's Grillo created a body of work named the "Kaleidoscope Series." Some of these works remain abstract, while others could easily be recognized as landscape paintings with trees, mountains and hills. The present serigraph, one of the best from this period, shows as well Grillo's penchant for a luminous sunlight yellow and his geometricism commencing earlier in that decade.
