First illustrated edition (same text as 1925 first edition, but without preface). Quarto (192 x 140 mm overall). No. 23 of 25 copies on vieux Japon (after 15 on chine, of the entire edition of 300 copies), with Valéry’s signature stamp on the justification. Illustrated throughout with original woodcuts by Thiollière, and with a separate suite of the woodcuts on Japon impérial. Printed in red and black in a “black letter” type. Publisher’s original cream wraps (in pristine, apparently original glassine, cleanly taped and never removed), title printed in red and black on front cover, uncut and unopened.
